For diehards only!…January Crappie at East Fork Lake

Whose the diehards? Chad and Rodney Powers. They went yesterday and hit the Crappie pretty hard. They caught whites and blacks both. Brought home 40 real nice fish. Almost filled the 5 gallon bucket. Certain parts of the lake (in the coves) had ice on it. The water had to be close to 36-39 degrees. Crappies were eating minnows and by afternoon they started the frenzy. So, is January Crappie at East Fork Lake typical? Was yesterday for Chad and Rodney. Used every minnow they had. Chad (whose not partial to using dead minnows) told me the Crappie were even hitting the dead minnows that fell on the floor of the boat. A great day at East Fork! So, is January Crappie fishing at East Fork Lake, “For diehards only?”

P.S…Get your minnows at the Boars Head.

Can you bank fish East Fork?

Bank fishing is great when weather permits. Minnow and floater works well. East Fork Lake is the Crappie capital of Ohio. Lay down trees, stumps, rock piles, bushes, all hold Crappie. Even high water brings Crappie into the willow trees around the boat ramps. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

Enjoyed reading brother. Yes shore fishing can be prosperous and the only means for catching those favorite species. We have to remember also that we must respect the general immediate area that a shore fisherman is working. The general rule if in a boat is to stay at least two times the distance of the shore fishermans cast. There is plenty of room for all and boats do have an advantage to be able to move about the lake. Lets all respect our fellow fisherman and enjoy the blessings of fishing.
